With continued expansion in southeast Fresno, the City has continued to update and widen several structures, including Willow Avenue over the Central Irrigation Canal. The existing bridge, which was built in 1995, was widened approximately 25ft and matches the curb alignment to the north and south of the bridge. Widening consisted of a single-span, cast-in-place reinforced concrete slab bridge supported on monolithic diaphragm abutments and driven steel piles. To meet freeboard requirements, the widened deck slab was designed to vary in thickness from the tie-in location with the existing bridge to the new edge of deck.
