Cornerstone prepared the plan, specifications, and estimate package for the rehabilitation and seismic retrofit of the existing Jensen Avenue Overhead in south Fresno. Additional deficiencies discovered by Cornerstone inspired Caltrans to revise the bridge’s sufficiency rating such that it made the bridge eligible for federal funding.
The rehabilitation included replacing the severely deteriorated barrier rails and approach slabs, applying a polyester concrete overlay to mitigate the various spalls and delaminations, replacing the failed joint seals at the abutments and bents, and repairing damaged deck drainage pipes. The seismic retrofit included the addition of a concrete abutment seat extender and the addition of pipe restrainers and concrete bolsters at the bents.
